Germany: Industrial Crisis Threatens 150,000 Jobs

The employers’ association "Gesamtmetall" has warned that Germany’s metal and electrical industry faces its biggest crisis since the founding of the Federal Republic, with up to 150,000 jobs at risk in 2026. Rising energy costs, high corporate taxes, and heavy bureaucracy are cited as key factors. The German Economic Institute predicts job cuts in most industrial sectors, except in areas such as pharmaceuticals and aerospace.
