The Greens, led by Cem Özdemir, won the Baden-Württemberg state election with 30.2% of the vote, narrowly ahead of the CDU at 29.7%. Özdemir, aged 60, is expected to become the first state premier in Germany with a migrant background, succeeding Winfried Kretschmann after 15 years in office. The AfD doubled its share to 18.8%, while the SPD fell to 5.5%. Both the FDP and Left Party failed to cross the 5% threshold.
