German politician of Turkish descent, Cem Özdemir (44), led the Greens to victory in the Baden-Württemberg state election with 32% of the vote, ahead of the CDU with 30%. With this win, Özdemir becomes the first state premier in Germany with a migrant background, succeeding Winfried Kretschmann. He is expected to form a coalition government with the CDU.
