Police in Lower Bavaria reported on March 1, 2026, that a large sum of cash was discovered with a passenger on an ICE train bound for Vienna.

  • Border police officers in Passau found €150,000 in cash plus a bundle of Swiss francs inside a plastic bag in the luggage of a 39-year-old man.

  • The man, from Wiesbaden, failed to provide a convincing explanation for the money’s origin.

  • Authorities have launched an investigation on suspicion of money laundering.

  • Police noted that similar cases involving large sums of cash, gold, or jewelry are encountered from time to time.
