  • At the opening of the Syrian consulate in Bonn, Damascus reiterated its request for Berlin to delay the return of Syrian refugees.

  • Consular director Mohammad Yaqub al-Omar told Focus magazine: “We ask Germany to understand the situation of Syrian refugees and give us more time for reconstruction.”

  • He warned that sending back thousands now could worsen the humanitarian crisis and force many into refugee camps.
