British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told the Munich Security Conference that the UK relies on cooperation with Europe in defense.
He said: “We are no longer the Britain of the Brexit years, because we know that the ability to act in a dangerous world cannot be achieved through isolation.”
Starmer stressed: “There is no British security without Europe, and no European security without Britain. That is the historical lesson and today’s reality.”
He called for strengthening NATO’s European dimension and deepening cooperation in industry, technology, and the wider economy.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen urged the EU to activate its collective defense clause, saying: “Collective defense is not optional. It is a treaty obligation.”
She added: “One for all, all for one – that is Europe.”
French President Emmanuel Macron said a stronger Europe would benefit its allies, including the United States. He emphasized that Ukraine remains Europe’s biggest issue and voiced support for President Donald Trump’s efforts to bring peace there.
