Berlin has opened the world’s largest trade fair for agriculture and food, as “Green Week” marks its 100th anniversary in 2026. Running until January 25, visitors can enjoy pistachio croissants, potato pancakes, and see calves in the animal stalls, while exploring global food and farming trends.
Around 1,600 exhibitors from more than 50 countries are showcasing their products and ideas. High-profile political figures are expected, including Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer described the fair as a “recipe for success” and a leading platform for the industry. The opening tour began in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern hall, this year’s partner state. State Premier Manuela Schwesig highlighted the importance of agriculture and food economics in Germany. Development Minister Reem Alabali-Radovan stressed that millions worldwide, especially children, still suffer from hunger.
The Development Ministry launched a program to support regular school meals in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Organizers expect around 325,000 visitors, with this year’s focus on food prices and security amid global tensions.
