Five people were killed in Austria over the weekend in two separate avalanche incidents during ski tours in the Alps. The accidents occurred amid warnings from authorities about high avalanche risk following heavy snowfall and unstable weather conditions.
Officials reported that the victims were caught in avalanches in different regions. Rescue teams, supported by helicopters and search dogs, managed to recover several victims, but most were found dead.
The Austrian mountain rescue service reiterated its warning of increased avalanche danger and urged skiers to exercise extreme caution.
