Julian Brandt opened the scoring in the 45+1 minute, and Karim Adeyemi doubled the lead early in the second half. St. Pauli responded strongly: James Sanders scored with a header in the 62nd minute, and Ricky-Jade Jones equalized in the 72nd.
In injury time, VAR awarded Dortmund a penalty, which Emre Can converted to secure the win.
The victory keeps Dortmund firmly in second place in the Bundesliga standings, while St. Pauli remains near the bottom. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz attended the match from the stands.
