Cologne: Dog Receives German TV License Fee Letter

Publication date: 2026-01-18

In Cologne, a pug named “Lotti Schlotterbeck” received an official letter from the ARD and ZDF broadcasting fee service, asking her to get in touch regarding payment.

Her owner, author Ema Kien, shared the incident on Facebook, posting a photo of the letter and joking that her dog was now expected to pay broadcasting fees despite already paying dog tax.

In a humorous reply, “Lotti” clarified she was a dog with four legs and a tail, without a phone, TV, radio, or internet access. She suggested future letters be sent on “sausage-flavored paper” and include treats for dogs.
