The Syrian Army announced on Saturday that it has begun entering the strategic city of Tabqa, located on the Euphrates River in Raqqa province in northern Syria, an area previously controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The move comes despite repeated warnings from Washington, which stated that any military action in the region could threaten stability and hinder ongoing mediation efforts between Syria’s new government and the SDF.
Tabqa is considered one of the most vital sites in northern Syria, hosting the Euphrates Dam, a power station, and serving as a strategic link between the provinces of Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor, and Hasakah.
