German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has made it clear that Germany will not send Bundeswehr soldiers to Ukraine, even if a permanent peace is achieved.
Speaking after talks in Paris within the framework of the “Coalition of the Willing,” Merz emphasized that Germany’s role will remain limited to political and economic support, as well as providing security guarantees through NATO and the EU.
He stressed that the federal government and the Bundestag would decide the type and scope of Germany’s contribution, but deploying German troops on Ukrainian soil is entirely ruled out.
