Lufthansa Marks 100 Years with New Visitor Center

Publication date: 2026-01-06

Exactly 100 years ago, the “Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft” was founded in Berlin.

Although today’s Lufthansa AG has no legal ties to its predecessor tainted by the Nazi era, it draws inspiration from its long tradition in aviation and technology.

To celebrate the centenary, the airline is modernizing its fleet and opening a new visitor and conference center. In “Hangar One” at Frankfurt Airport, two historic propeller aircraft will be displayed: a Lockheed Super Star from 1958 and a Junkers Ju 52 from 1936.

Six modern aircraft will also feature a special livery combining the crane symbol with the number 100 and the years 1926 and 2026.

Lufthansa is Europe’s largest airline group and the biggest by revenue, employing around 104,000 staff. With its recent minority stake in Italy’s ITA Airways, the group now operates about 840 aircraft and plans to acquire Portugal’s TAP next, which would make it the world’s fourth-largest airline after the three major US carriers.
