US President Donald Trump’s renewed call for Greenland to become part of the United States has triggered strong warnings from Denmark and the European Union.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described the situation as “dangerous,” stressing that any military attack on a NATO member would mean “the end of everything, including NATO and the security order established after World War II.”
Greenland’s Prime Minister, whose island is an autonomous territory of Denmark, responded firmly: “Enough,” urging Washington to abandon “illusions of annexation.”
The European Commission also cautioned the US against using national security as a pretext for annexing Greenland, reminding that the island is both a US ally and under NATO protection.
