Germany recorded a significant decline in asylum applications in 2025, according to the Interior Ministry.
A total of 113,236 first-time applications were filed, marking a 51% decrease compared to 2024 and a 66% drop compared to 2023.
In 2024, there were 229,751 applications, while 2023 saw 329,120.
Meanwhile, deportations rose sharply, with tens of thousands of people deported in 2025 – an increase of about 20% compared to the previous year.
Officials attributed the decline to stricter migration policies. The European Commission also reported record-high deportations across the EU.
