Germany has been hit by a severe winter wave at the start of January, causing widespread traffic paralysis and dozens of accidents.
Police described the situation in some regions as “catastrophic” and urged residents not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.
Northern and western areas were hardest hit, with heavy snow and ice forcing vehicles off the roads and leaving many stranded.
Several cities suspended bus services entirely as a precaution, while airports reported hundreds of canceled and delayed flights.
The German Weather Service warned of ongoing icy conditions, with temperatures ranging between minus three and plus three degrees Celsius, keeping the risk of accidents high.
