German authorities have announced new developments in the investigation of the major robbery at a Sparkasse branch in Gelsenkirchen.
Police found license plates believed to be linked to the getaway vehicles used by the perpetrators.
According to the German Press Agency, the plates were discovered in Dortmund inside a garbage container near a taxi stand at the city’s main train station.
The Bild newspaper reported that a witness alerted police on Sunday afternoon.
Police and prosecutors had earlier released photos of two suspected getaway cars showing their license numbers.
The robbers had broken into the vault room by cutting a large hole in the wall and managed to open most of the 3,250 safety deposit boxes belonging to customers at the branch in the Buer district.
