German authorities discovered license plates believed to be connected to one of the getaway vehicles used in the robbery of a Sparkasse branch in Gelsenkirchen. According to the German Press Agency, the plates were found in Dortmund, and investigators are checking their link to the suspects.

The widely read German newspaper Bild reported that a witness alerted police on Sunday afternoon. The plates were discovered in a garbage container near a taxi stand at Dortmund’s main train station.

Police and prosecutors had earlier released photos of two suspected getaway cars showing their license numbers. The robbers had broken into the vault room by cutting a large hole in the wall and managed to open most of the 3,250 safety deposit boxes belonging to customers at the branch in the Buer district.
