Fadewohl Calls for “Strong European Unity” Against Russia’s Hybrid Attacks

German Foreign Minister Johann Fadewohl warned of increasing Russian hybrid attacks on Europe, stressing the need for a more independent European defense capability.

Speaking on Monday (January 5, 2025) before departing for Lithuania, the CDU politician said: “We must be ready to defend ourselves and our freedom more independently.”

In Vilnius, Fadewohl plans to discuss expanding cooperation with Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė and Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys.

He emphasized that Germany and Lithuania agree that “only decisive action can deter Russia from further escalation.” The German government is working with Lithuania, NATO partners, and the European Union to strengthen surveillance in the Baltic Sea, raise vigilance, and invest in more resilient infrastructure.
