Germany’s Interior Ministry reported a significant decline in asylum applications in 2025, with more than 116,000 fewer initial requests compared to the previous year.
Applications fell by 51% compared to 2024 and by 66% compared to 2023. At the same time, tens of thousands of people were deported, marking a 20% increase from the year before.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt attributed the decline mainly to the government’s stricter migration policies, saying the new measures were beginning to show results.
The European Commission also reported a record number of deportations across the EU as a whole.
