Germany has effectively suspended family reunification for hardship cases. Official figures show that only two visas have been granted under the new system, despite thousands of pending applications.
The government had promised to issue up to 1,000 visas per month for urgent humanitarian cases. In practice, however, implementation has been minimal, leaving many families waiting indefinitely.
Human rights organizations and aid groups have strongly criticized the situation, calling it a “promise without delivery” and warning of severe humanitarian consequences for families dependent on reunification.
