The Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) has unveiled an ambitious plan to position Germany as Europe’s space hub and a driver of cutting-edge technologies.

In a draft policy paper discussed at the CSU parliamentary group’s winter meeting in Banz Monastery, Bavaria, the party stated: “The next industrial revolution is happening in orbit. We want the first organ manufactured in space to come from Germany.”

Parliamentary group leader Alexander Hoffmann emphasized Germany’s goal to become the world’s leading technology nation. The CSU’s high-tech agenda includes major investments in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, microelectronics, and biotechnology, with a strong focus on space manufacturing.

The paper noted that tissue structures and blood vessels can be printed more stably in space, potentially reducing reliance on human organs like hearts and livers and revolutionizing transplant medicine.

The CSU also called for increased research funding, the establishment of space stations with laboratories, and reduced bureaucracy to foster innovation.
