Germany suffered significant losses at the end of 2025 due to storms and heavy rainfall.
According to the German Insurance Association (GDV), insured damages from natural hazards amounted to around €2.6 billion. This figure is €3 billion lower than in 2024, but insurers caution against complacency.
GDV’s chief executive Jörg Asmussen stated that the reduced damages this year were “pure luck.” He stressed that extreme weather events driven by climate change will continue to rise, making it essential to expand comprehensive prevention and protection systems.
