A total of 2.7 million people in Germany have signed a petition calling for a ban on fireworks during New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Organizers of the campaign highlighted the high number of annual injuries, the strain on emergency services, and the environmental damage caused by fireworks. Noise pollution and risks to animals were also cited as key reasons behind the demand.
The petition is considered the largest of its kind in Germany and will be submitted to the Bundestag. Whether lawmakers will act on the proposal remains uncertain.
