German experts have uncovered serious security vulnerabilities in the popular Xplora smartwatch for children, allowing outsiders to spy on messages and even send fake texts under the children’s names.
The Technical University of Darmstadt announced that one of its students managed to bypass security measures in the latest model as part of his master’s thesis.
The Xplora watch is considered a preferred alternative to smartphones, enabling children to make calls and exchange short text messages with a limited number of pre-stored contacts.
It does not provide internet browsing or access to social media apps. Parents can also track the device’s location via GPS.
