Employers and Unions Present Remedies for Germany’s Economic Crisis

Publication date: 2025-12-29

Germany remains stuck in a deep recession. Employer associations are calling for sweeping reforms: lower energy costs, reduced taxes, more incentives for investment, and less bureaucracy. “The economy is shrinking, unemployment is rising, and Germany has become unattractive for investors,” warned Rainer Dulger, president of the Confederation of German Employers’ Associations (BDA).

Unions, however, emphasize the need to protect jobs and boost public investment. They caution against placing the burden solely on workers and demand fair cost-sharing.

Both sides agree that without decisive action, the crisis will worsen. Industries such as automotive and steel are already suffering from high costs and weak demand.
