German Arms Exports Drop Sharply in 2025

Germany’s arms exports saw a significant decline in 2025, following two consecutive years of record highs. The downturn coincides with the broader economic crisis affecting the country.

According to a response from the German Ministry of Economy to a parliamentary inquiry by Left Party MP Ulrich Thoden, export licenses for weapons and military equipment issued between January 1 and December 8, 2025 amounted to €8.30 billion. This compares to more than €13 billion last year and €12.15 billion the year before.

A letter from State Secretary Thomas Steffen, reviewed by the German Press Agency (dpa), also revealed a sharp drop in arms exports to Ukraine, which totaled €1.14 billion in 2025, down from €8.15 billion the previous year.
