Andrea Nahles, head of the Federal Employment Agency, warned on Friday (December 26, 2025) that job opportunities for unemployed people in Germany have fallen to a historic low.
She explained that the German labor market has been stagnant for months, showing little momentum.
“We have an index that measures the likelihood of unemployed people finding a job again. Normally it stands at around seven, but now it is at 5.7 — the lowest level ever,” Nahles said.
Young people and newcomers are particularly affected, as their skills often do not match the available positions. Nahles also criticized planned reforms to unemployment benefits, warning they could worsen the situation further.
