Andrea Nahles, head of the Federal Employment Agency, warned on Friday (December 26, 2025) of an unprecedented drop in job opportunities for unemployed people in Germany.
Speaking to the news portal "Web.de," Nahles said the German labor market has been stagnant for months, lacking momentum.
“We have an index that measures the likelihood of unemployed people finding a job again. Normally it stands at around seven, but now it is at 5.7 — the lowest level ever,” she explained.
Young people and newcomers are particularly affected, as their skills often do not match the available positions.
Nahles also criticized planned reforms to unemployment benefits, warning that they could worsen the situation further.
