NATO says Europe’s security depends on supporting Ukraine

NATO has reaffirmed that Europe’s security is directly tied to continued support for Ukraine.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul warned against assuming safety even if efforts to reach a ceasefire succeed.

On December 23, 2025, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte urged member states to keep backing Ukraine, highlighting security risks for Europe.

Speaking to the German Press Agency, Rutte stressed that only a strong Ukraine and increased defense spending – as agreed at the NATO summit in The Hague – would deter Russian President Vladimir Putin from attacking any NATO member.
