Pakistani pressure – Germany rescues 141 Afghans from deportation to the Taliban

Publication date: 2025-12-23

On Monday (22 December 2025), a chartered plane landed at Hannover Airport carrying 141 Afghans who had previously been granted approval to resettle in Germany.

The move came just days before the deadline set by Pakistan, which warned it would begin deporting Afghans back to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan if Germany failed to transfer them.

Germany’s Interior Ministry confirmed that the flight departed from Islamabad and arrived in Lower Saxony, with the refugees to be distributed across other federal states.

Germany had pledged to host former local staff and other vulnerable individuals under special programs after the Taliban seized power in Kabul in 2021.
