Despite stricter migration and asylum policies introduced by the German government, more than 100,000 family reunification visas were granted in 2025.
According to Foreign Ministry data published by Welt am Sonntag on Sunday (December 21, 2025), a total of 101,756 visas were approved by the end of November.
The coalition government, led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Union and the Social Democrats, had tightened regulations, yet the number of visas remained high.
