Germany: Police warn of AI-generated fake profiles online

German police have issued an official warning after detecting a surge in fake online profiles created using artificial intelligence.

Hamburg police reported a rise in social media accounts showing deepfake images of women in police uniforms. These realistic images are being used to lure men into clicking on paid websites.

In a statement, police said: “We are receiving increasing reports of allegedly AI-generated social media profiles that supposedly depict female colleagues of the Hamburg police.”

Authorities urged the public to remain cautious and report suspicious accounts immediately.
