Recent data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) shows around 13,000 confirmed flu cases in Germany within just ten weeks.
Typically, the flu season runs from week 40 until week 20 of the following year, but Germany has already entered a wave since week 48 of this year.
The 2022/2023 season was particularly severe, with over 100,000 confirmed cases between weeks 40 and 49, rising to more than 290,000 cases by week 20 of 2023.
In contrast, flu infections dropped significantly during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Experts note that the reported figures only cover laboratory-confirmed cases, while the actual numbers are likely much higher.
