Germany’s AfD Seeks Transatlantic Right-Wing Alliance with Trump Movement

Publication date: 2025-12-14

The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party announced plans to strengthen its ties with U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration and the Republican Party by hosting a conference in Berlin in February, inviting American officials to attend.

Markus Frohnmaier, deputy parliamentary group leader and foreign policy spokesman for the AfD, said during a visit to the United States that representatives from the U.S. State Department, members of Congress, and lobbying organizations would be invited. The event coincides with the Munich Security Conference.

Frohnmaier, who is also the party’s top candidate for the Baden-Württemberg state election in 2026, received an award at a ceremony organized by the influential Young Republicans Club in New York. In his speech, he called for an “alliance” between “patriots” in the United States and Germany.

The visit, joined by several AfD lawmakers, drew criticism from other German parties, which accused the AfD of damaging Germany’s image and wasting travel expenses. Frohnmaier confirmed he also met U.S. government representatives on Friday but did not disclose their identities.
