According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, the number of workdays in Germany will rise noticeably in 2026, reaching about 250.5 days – 2.4 more than in the current year. This increase is due to several public holidays coinciding with weekends, such as German Unity Day on December 26.
Despite the higher number of workdays, the timing of holidays offers opportunities for extended vacations through so-called “bridge days.” At the start of the year, employees can enjoy four days off by taking just one vacation day. Around Easter, ten days off are possible with four vacation days. In May, workers can secure twelve consecutive days off by using six vacation days.
In autumn and at the end of the year, holidays are less abundant, but with careful planning employees can still achieve between ten and sixteen days off, particularly between December 28 and 31.
