Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the German National Tourist Board, announced that travelers from the Gulf states have become a leading force in Germany’s tourism market, spending around €2.3 billion in 2024.
Speaking at a press conference in Dubai’s Madinat Jumeirah, marking 20 years of the German tourism office’s presence in the Gulf, Hedorfer highlighted Germany’s transformation into a global tourism destination. Once known mainly for its automotive industry, Germany now thrives as a hub for leisure and cultural tourism.
She noted that leisure tourism is the main driver of international visits, while 23% of tourists come for business. Overall, international visitor spending reached €77 billion in 2024, with Gulf travelers playing a key role in this growth.
