A large-scale survey revealed that many Europeans believe the risk of war with Russia in the coming years is “high” or “very high,” while most participants expressed doubts about their countries’ ability to defend themselves if such a conflict occurs.
The poll, conducted by the group "Cluster 17" and published in the French magazine "Le Grand Continent," included 9,553 respondents across nine European nations. It found that 51% of Europeans consider a conflict with Moscow a realistic possibility in the near future.
The survey covered France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Croatia, Belgium, and the Netherlands, with more than 1,000 participants in each country.
When asked directly, “Do you think Russia could wage war against your country in the coming years?”, responses varied. In Poland, which borders Russia and its ally Belarus, 77% of respondents said the risk was very high – the highest figure in the survey.
In France, 54% shared this concern, while 51% of Germans considered war a serious possibility. In Italy, many respondents also expressed significant fears.
