Electric Car Registrations Surge in Germany as BYD Gains Ground

Publication date: 2025-12-03

Germany’s market for fully electric cars saw a sharp rise in new registrations last November, according to official data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority.

The number of newly registered electric vehicles exceeded 55,740, marking a 58.5% increase compared to the same month in 2024. As a result, the share of electric cars rose to more than 22% of all newly registered passenger vehicles in Germany.

However, the authority noted that much of this growth is due to a weak comparison with 2024, when demand fell sharply after the sudden cancellation of government subsidies for electric car purchases amid Berlin’s budget crisis.
