The German armed forces reported on Tuesday (December 2, 2025) that unknown perpetrators stole a large shipment of ammunition intended for the Bundeswehr. The theft occurred from a civilian contractor’s trailer parked overnight in Magdeburg, eastern Germany. German media said the stolen cargo contained around 20,000 rounds. According to Der Spiegel, the initial inspection revealed about 10,000 live pistol cartridges, 9,900 blank rounds for assault rifles, and smoke ammunition. The driver reportedly decided spontaneously to spend the night at a hotel in Burg, with the loss only discovered when the remaining shipment was delivered to the designated barracks. A Bundeswehr spokesperson stressed that this was unlikely to be a “random theft.” Security authorities were immediately notified, and a thorough investigation is underway.
