Germany Approves 2026 Budget with Record Spending

The German government has passed the 2026 federal budget worth over €524 billion. About €100 billion will come from new debt—the highest borrowing since the COVID-19 pandemic. An additional €80 billion will be financed through a special fund for infrastructure and defense. The largest allocations go to the Ministry of Social Affairs with more than €140 billion (mainly pensions) and the Defense Ministry with €83 billion, about €20 billion more than this year.
