German police announced they received dozens of new tips after the cold case of five-year-old Zainab was re-aired on ZDF’s crime program “Aktenzeichen XY… ungelöst.” The murder occurred in November 1986 in Neuenrade, North Rhine-Westphalia, when the child from a Turkish guest worker family disappeared from her bedroom and was later found dead near a fence in a wooded area. Investigators now suspect a teenager who lived in the same building at the time may be linked to gloves discovered near the crime scene. A Hagen police officer said one of the tips could prove decisive. A red pocketknife, believed to have been the murder weapon, was also found back then. Authorities have significantly increased the reward for information leading to the perpetrator and continue to urge the public to come forward.
