The trial of seven suspected members of the far-left group “Antifa Ost” opened today, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Higher Regional Court in Dresden, eastern Germany. The proceedings are taking place under tight security and have attracted significant media attention. The case focuses on a man identified under German privacy laws as Johann G., who is believed to have held a leadership role in the group. The defendants – six men and one woman – are accused by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of involvement in eight attacks in Germany and several in Hungary between 2018 and 2023. The trial begins just days after the United States designated the group, along with other self-described antifascist movements in Europe, as a “terrorist organization.” The group is also known as the “Hammer Gang.”
