On Sunday, Borussia Dortmund members elected Hans-Joachim Watzke as the club’s new president. The 66-year-old, who had served as CEO for over two decades and helped rescue the club from financial crisis, received only 59 percent of the votes. Out of more than 238,000 members, just around 4,400 participated in the election. Watzke was the sole candidate after former president Reinhold Lunow withdrew his candidacy. Despite the modest result, Watzke pledged to be “a president for all Dortmund fans” and to strengthen dialogue between members, supporters, and management.
