Germany experienced its first major winter storm of the season, with heavy snow and ice causing hundreds of traffic accidents. The German Weather Service (DWD) issued broad warnings of further ice and frost in the coming hours. Southern and southeastern states faced the worst conditions, as overnight snowfall left roads treacherous and sudden ice patches triggered dangerous incidents. In Bavaria, three people were killed and several injured in a horrific crash on the A93 motorway near Machheide-Haidhoff, involving two trucks and a private car.
