German Foreign Minister Johann Vadevol expressed cautious optimism about progress in efforts to establish a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. He noted that the original plan had removed all issues related to Europe and NATO. Speaking to Germany’s public radio (Deutschlandfunk) during talks between U.S. and Ukrainian representatives in Geneva, he said: “What we achieved yesterday is a decisive success.” On Sunday, negotiators from Germany, France, Britain, Italy, the EU, Ukraine, and the United States discussed in Geneva the U.S.-proposed peace plan consisting of 28 points. The United States and Ukraine prepared a new draft version. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the outcome in Geneva as “tremendous progress,” adding that the remaining open points were “not insurmountable,” without giving details on the disputed issues.
