German ophthalmologist Professor Gerd Gerling stated that experiencing glare from oncoming car headlights is a normal reaction of the eyes. He advised drivers in such cases to focus on the right edge of the road and avoid looking directly at the light source under any circumstances. Gerling also emphasized adjusting speed according to visibility conditions, slowing down when in doubt. He highlighted the importance of driving with clean windows and wearing glasses with clean, anti-reflective lenses, as dirt can scatter light and intensify glare. The professor stressed that high beams are bright enough to dazzle everyone regardless of age, but age-related changes in the eyes may cause difficulties even with lower-intensity lights.
