Germany rejects 99% of Syrian asylum applications

Publication date: 2025-11-20

According to Bild, citing the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, Germany rejected over 99% of Syrian asylum applications processed in October 2025. Out of 3,134 cases, only one was granted political asylum, ten received refugee status, nine subsidiary protection, and six deportation bans. The decision follows the suspension of Syrian asylum applications in December 2024 after Assad’s regime fell, leaving 52,881 cases pending until late October 2025. Documents indicate hearings now cover all Syrian applicants except ethnic and religious minorities. Foreign Minister Johann Fadevoll (CDU) reiterated his description of Damascus as “completely destroyed,” insisting that return is only possible in very limited circumstances.
