Publication date: 2025-11-19

On Wednesday (November 19), the trial of five men began at the Higher Regional Court in Koblenz. They face charges of murder, crimes against humanity, and war crimes committed in Syria between 2012 and 2014. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has accused the defendants of participating in the violent suppression of protests. Four of them are stateless Palestinian refugees from Syria, while the fifth holds Syrian citizenship. Investigators allege that the crimes took place in the Yarmouk camp, a district of Damascus. The defendants are aged between 42 and 56. According to the indictment, four of the men were members of the Syrian militia “Free Palestine Movement,” while the fifth allegedly worked for the Syrian intelligence service’s “Palestine Branch.”
