Germany and its European partners have pledged continued support for Ukraine in its war against Russia, despite a recent corruption scandal exposing mismanagement and misuse of public funds. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, speaking at the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Canada, said he told his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiha that “a determined fight against corruption in Ukraine is essential to keep Western support credible.” Wadephul emphasized that Germany and the EU remain committed to supporting Ukraine and its independent anti-corruption institutions. On the sidelines, he also met EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, as well as the foreign ministers of France and Italy alongside Ukraine’s representative. In Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the resignation of Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, which later took place amid the energy sector scandal. Investigations reveal that the multimillion-dollar bribery case extends beyond energy into the defense sector. The main suspect, Timur Mendich, a longtime business associate of Zelensky, fled abroad to avoid arrest. Sources - Agencies
